Stewardship

Ise Pearl is a traditional timber pearling lugger from the working age of the northern pearling trade. Built in an era of tides, trade, hard weather and dangerous work, she is now one of the last vessels of her kind still afloat.

From the late 1800s through to the middle of the twentieth century, fleets of luggers worked the Torres Strait and northern Australian waters in search of pearl shell. Divers descended beneath the surface in heavy canvas suits and brass helmets, tethered to air lines from above. Crews lived by tide, season and wind. Entire maritime communities formed around these vessels and the culture surrounding them.

Pearling luggers became part of the identity of the north.

Ise Pearl carries the spirit of that world.

A vessel shaped by salt, weather and long passages. One that has passed through many hands and many lives across the years, gathering story and character along the way.

Built from timber.
Held together by craftsmanship, labour and seamanship.

In many ways, she represents the foundation this house was built upon.

The sail mark carried by Jack Savage takes direct inspiration from the traditional working sails of these vessels. The materials, colours, textures and philosophy of the brand all trace back to a life shaped by the sea and the culture that surrounded it.

The intention is simple:

To acquire and steward Ise Pearl for the long term.
To preserve her working spirit.
To keep her sailing.
And to build a body of work around her that honours the maritime culture she came from.

Not as a museum piece.
Not as a luxury spectacle.
But as a living vessel with purpose.
